About Us

The Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (WCAAP) has a long history of advocating for Washington’s children, their families, and their healthcare providers.  The chapter also creates educational resources and provides professional support.  Nearly 1000 pediatricians, including general pediatricians, sub-specialists and hospitalists, are members of the WCAAP.

The Chapter is governed by volunteer officers and a board of trustees and is staffed by an executive director, a lobbyist, and a community liaison.

Mission

The Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics advocates for the health and well-being of children and their families while supporting pediatricians in their development and practice.

Vision

For Washington Children and their Families:  The Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics believes in the value of our state’s children. We envision optimal health, growth and development of these children. Pediatricians are specially trained in the comprehensive care of infants, children and adolescents, and the WCAAP works to assure that children receive the quality, comprehensive care they deserve through a Medical Home. We believe that this care is the foundation of their lifetime health and well-being.

For Washington Pediatricians:  The Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics believes in the value of pediatric care for children. We envision a health care delivery system that recognizes that children have unique needs requiring specialized care. The WCAAP works to assure that pediatricians – providing primary care, pediatric sub-specialty care and pediatric hospital care – are always accessible to Washington children. We believe that access to quality care for all children requires that pediatric services receive fair reimbursement. We believe in the professional development of pediatricians and enhancement of pediatric practice in Washington State.
